Today, the new EU Regulation 2023/988 on General Product Safety comes into force in all member states. The Czech Republic has also adopted the new Act on General Product Safety (Act No. 387/2024 Coll.). This Act, in particular, defines the supervisory authorities for the Czech market. It also sets out when economic operators may commit an offence by breaching the provisions of the GPSR and regulates the penalties that may be imposed for these offences.

As required by the GPSR, the Act on General Product Safety identifies the Ministry of Industry and Trade as the national contact point responsible for checking the completeness of notifications of dangerous products through the Safety Gate rapid alert system, their submission to the European Commission, and related communication.
